NEA Chairman visits Blackshear Fine Arts Academy
On December 8, 2015, Jane Chu, the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, visited Blackshear Fine Arts Academy to learn more about the Creative Learning Initiative.
In FY 2015, the NEA awarded Austin ISD an $80,000 Collective Impact grant to support the Creative Learning Initiative, with the goal of ensuring that each and every child across the district receives a quality arts-rich education. As part of the visit, Chairman Chu observed classrooms to see the foundational elements of the Creative Learning Initiative: arts learning, creative teaching across the curriculum, and the effect of community arts partnerships.
After the classroom visits, Chairman Chu met with Austin ISD school officials, including former Board President Gina Hinojosa, as well as community arts leaders, to discuss access and equity to the arts through collective impact.
