To celebrate Youth Art Month 2015 in Austin, over 1,500 works of art representing 113 elementary, middle, and high schools will be displayed for public viewing at the new Austin Independent School District Performing Arts Center.

Parents, students, teachers, and art lovers, from all walks of Austin life will gather to view this once a year exhibit. Painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, collage, weaving, ceramics, photography, jewelry and electronic media will amaze visitors to the show.

Youth Art Month will be represented as well with ten billboards designed by Rachel Davidson, 12th grade art student at Akins High School. The billboard theme for this year is “Art Connects”. 2015 Art T-shirts adorned with a student design created by Patton Elementary fifth grade student, Eiman Tauseef, have been sold in schools. They display the theme, "Austin is Batty About Art".

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills art strands that include perception, response/evaluation, creative expression, and history and culture will insure an exhibit that shines in quality and variety. By studying art styles from pre-historic to modern times, the children have incorporated art history into their own cultural and personal style. Students have learned to express themselves and their traditions and invent beauty through their art creations.

At the reception on March 8, 2015 refreshments will be provided. Free parking is available for the reception in the Performing Arts Center parking garage.

Please consider prior coverage of this upcoming event. Interviews with students and teachers, prior viewings, digital photos of art destined for the show (for newspapers), and P.S.A.s (for radio and TV) are available from the contact person upon request.
