Austin Symphony Orchestra High School Concerts
The Austin Symphony (ASO), in partnership with Austin Independent School District (AISD), received $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the project Connecting with Music: Austin Interdisciplinary Learning Initiative. This project will deepen ASO’s existing High School Concert series by designing an interdisciplinary unit of study incorporating project–based learning across content areas and then piloting implementation in 4 AISD high schools. Learning activities will be organized around a theme, e.g., Romeo and Juliet: The Nature of Conflict, to foster exploration of topics involving multiple learning dimensions.
ASO HS Concert Dates -
Jan. 19th - McCallum and LBJ/LASA
Jan. 20th - Austin HS
Jan. 21st - Bowie HS
The High School Concerts reach more than 9,500 students every Spring, developing interest and involvement in the symphony, and preparing students to be future artists, audiences and patrons of the arts. The 45-minute concerts are performed in the gymnasiums of area high schools and are designed especially for teenagers. High School Concerts are a real “alternative” music experience for young people!
A special highlight of these concerts is showcasing outstanding band and orchestra students from each school, who play side-by-side with ASO musicians.
