Austin High Ballet Folklorico Takes Top Honors
On March 12th, Austin High Ballet Folklorico competed in the Ballet Folklorico Competition of the Viva Aztlan Festival in Lubbock, TX.
The team was awarded:
- 1st place traditional
- 1st place technique and style
- 1st place choreography
- 2nd place costumes
- 1st place performance
- Best of Show
The competition team consists of Capitana Monica Magallanes, Chief Instructional officer Laura "Vicky" Ortega, Instructional lieutenant Yaretzi Rodriguez Rogel, Bianey Chairez, Sofia Valadez, Blanca Barbosa, Verenice Jaimes, Victoria "Sunshine" Torres, Castalia Vidaurri, Ana Barron, Edin Carrillo Martinez and Jarek Torres
From the company, Monica Magallanes and Jarek Torres were named best female and male dancer respectively.
On Friday, March 11th, choreographer Victoria Carr, and two officers, Monica Magallanes and Laura "Vicky" Ortega performed in a showcase prior to the first of two mariachi concerts during the festival.
